Let me start by asking you a question. How many times have you read the Book of Proverbs? If ‘yes’ are you putting it’s words in action? If ‘yes’ how is it all going on?

I guess you all have various answers anyway let me just get straight to the point. Everyone wants to be wise but no one has taken time to read a book which was written by the wisest man who lived on earth. He didn’t get the wisdom from reading or conducting experiments neither did he carry out any form of investigation. He attain such wisdom from the almighty Omniscient God our Lord.

Going back to the scriptures, 1 Kings 3: 5- 14 elucidates that King Solomon loved the Lord and he would offer to God thousands of sacrifices on the altar. The lord was pleased with Solomon hence he appeared to him and asked him a question;  What shall I give you?” Everyone till this generation is astonished by the response of King Solomon when he said:

.9 Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours

This delighted God and furthermore, I was overwhelmed by God’s response to Solomon when he said:

11 Then God said to him: “Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked long life for yourself, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice, 12 behold, I have done according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you. 13 And I have also given you what you have not asked: both riches and honour, so that there shall not be anyone like you among the kings all your days. 14 So if you walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.”

All this took place in a revelation, in a dream when the Lord appeared to Solomon. As I began to dwell in the word, I suppose Solomon when he went to offer his sacrifices; his main prayer was that The Lord would walk and talk to him just like how He spoke and walked to his father David.

One thing that we should note is PRAYER YIELDS WISDOM, WISDOM YIELDS BETTER PRAYER. The bible says seek first the kingdom of God and all the things (including wisdom) shall be given unto you. Therefore we should seek the Lord in spirit and truth and to have a deeper understanding of who he really is and what he can do for us.

Wisdom is what we need as it helps us to see everything from God’s eternal perspective, understand the cause and effect of a decision and constantly learn from any situation.

‘ if anyone lacks wisdom let him ask of God who gives to all liberally and without reproach and it will be given to you’ – James 1:5

In the above scripture the Lord promises to give us wisdom if we seek and have the craving for it (proverbs 2:4-6) says

‘ if you SEEK her as silver and SEARCH for her as the HIDDEN TREASURES, then you will understand that the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God, for the Lord gives wisdom, from his mouth come knowledge and understanding’.

The Book of Proverbs elucidates the difference between:

  • hard work and laziness (proverbs 10:4)
  • righteousness and wickedness (proverbs 10:7)
  • honesty and dishonest (proverbs 12:19)
  • humility and arrogance (proverbs 16:18 – 19)

I hope and trust that this has challenged you to seek the Lord and His wisdom just as He blessed King Solomon with wisdom. Remember, He is the same God WHO WAS, WHO IS AND WHO IS TO COME.

As we draw near to the month of October let it be your month of wisdom. Embark on a 31day of wisdom challenge as we meditate upon the book of Proverbs with 31 chapters.  Read and meditate upon each and every chapter everyday and share what the spirit is saying to you to the rest of the world you don’t know who is eagerly waiting to receive that word.

Stay blessed XX
